Blackwood Family Medical Centre is a general practice in the centre of Blackwood. Our practice is dedicated to providing you and your family with personalised, professional, quality healthcare. We have a team of dedicated friendly staff and doctors who will be pleased to assist you with your healthcare needs.
Our purpose built facility enables us to provide you with care in modern and comfortable surroundings.
We Pride ourselves on our ease of access being open 7 days a week, and we also offer some same day appointments!
Our focus is on providing professional, personal care, from the moment you first call, an important part of this is getting to know you, and understanding your life situation, because we believe this allows us to provide you with more effective and well-rounded treatment.
We provide the full range of general practice care including chronic disease management, health assessments, childhood immunisations, vaccinations, skin checks, pap smears, contraceptive implant insertion/removal and other minor surgical procedures.
DOCTORS THAT LISTEN : We asked patients what is the most important thing they want in a Doctor? You won’t be surprised to learn that confidence in the doctor, a doctor that takes the time to listen and explains things well and the feeling of not being rushed, came at the top of the list. These are the qualities we look for in our doctors.
NURSES : Today nurses play an active role in general practice. Our qualified nurses, located in the fully-equipped treatment room add the flexibility and efficiency of the services available to you. A sample of the many services our nurses provide are immunisations, wound care, chronic disease care plans, health assessments, spirometry and APBI’s.
RECEPTION TEAM : Absolutely indispensable to the smooth running of the medical centre, our reception team members are chosen for their competence and natural service attitude. You can rely on them to make you feel welcome! Our Practice Manager has over 15 years experience in practice management and is happy to assist with any questions.
Appointments and Cancellations
Please be aware that a cancellation fee will apply unless a minimum 2 hours notice is given by phone.
This allows us enough time to contact other patients who need appointments to be provided for.

Fees apply to both face-to-face and telephone consults. Gap fees apply.
We currently charge gap fees on Monday to Sunday and Public Holidays.

Why Is There a GAP? The Federal Government’s indexation of Medicare Rebates has never kept pace with the rising cost of operating a medical practice. Medicare Rebates were frozen from 2012 until 2018 with recent increases well below CPI and now cover less than half of the actual cost of providing high-quality medical care and services which means we are not able to bulk bill all our patients.
Payment is required in full on the day of consultation and can be made by EFTPOS and Credit Card (VISA & MasterCard Only).
The Practice has facilities to enable immediate refund of Medicare Rebates.
BULK BILL still available.
Children under 16 years of age will be bulk billed.
PENSIONERS / Concession card holders bulk billed.
Workers Compensation accounts must be paid on the day unless patient has an approved Claim number.
FULL PAYMENT IS EXPECTED AT TIME OF CONSULTATION
All Procedures, Skin Cancer Body Scanning and all minor or major procedures, Implanon Removals and Insertions, Mirena Insertions and Removals, Iron Infusions and skin biopsies during the week and weekends will incur a gap.
